Day 3: Paint and Power and Heat (oh my!)

Another beautiful day, and we've seen further progress. In fact, today I let out my breath just a little: it was the day for the electrician to come and work his magic, and since I had almost no idea what exactly would be involved or what horrors he might find as he tried to set up the wiring for the new kitchen configuration, I was a little nervous. I figure if there are going to be any real problems, then heat, electricity, or plumbing would be the most obvious trouble spots.

However, the electricians seem to have finished. We have all sorts of wires sticking out of the walls, but I didn't hear anyone swear, no one seemed to be in a flap, and no one called up to me, "Uh, Kelly? You need to come and take a look at this . . . ."

In fact, the only question today was, "Where do you want this phone line?" -- and I didn't need it at all!

In addition, the small heating issue is solved -- the duct from my bedroom that used to run through the now non-existant wall is running down a corner of the dining room:

Granted, at present the appearance is a little more rustic than one would want; however, eventually (I suspect tomorrow, actually) there will be what amounts to a frame built for the window -- the duct will be boxed in, and there will be a matching box in the other corner and then over the window. This will take away some space in those corners, but it won't interfere with the cabinets, and it won't cause any real issues for space use, so I'm fine with that.

While all of that was going on, the living room, stairway, and hallways got a fresh coat of paint. It looks wonderfully fresh (not surprising, given that we hadn't painted in about eighteen years).

It's a nice neutral called "Navajo White," and it I'm very pleased with it.

Our other adventure was the actual ordering of the tile for the entry and backsplash. I'm not all that hard to please, as it turns out. For my entrance tile, I said, "What's this one you have here on the floor of the showroom? I really like it!" The backsplash took a little longer to choose, but the issue there was just size and shape, not stone type or colour.

We bought bones for the dogs, who were very good today -- especially when you consider that for much of the day they were shut with us in a bedroom. We all got out of the house for the various errands, and I think we could all use a nap about now.

Tomorrow marks the end of the first week, and I have to say that so far, I'm finding it fascinating -- often inconvenient, certainly, but fascinating!
